Mahisasura Mardini is one of the names of the Divine Mother Bhavani/Durga, who sustains, nourishes, and protects life in the Three Worlds and the whole creation, is invoked in this prayer and gently requested for protection from all kinds of danger and threat as well as to nurture life and bestowing her blessings.
This long Hymn and very powerful prayer describes her beauty and her glorious victorious deeds of slaying the powerful demon Mahisasura (depicting ‘Ego’ when it starts terrorizing life) as well as many other demons (negative forces) who could not be conquered by any other power. To this effect, the Divine Mother was bestowed with all the might and power of the Creator. This Hymn, composed millenia ago by Shri Adi Shankaracharya of Kaladhi.
